HAM AND BEAN SOUP

Every fall UIC has a fundraiser where we sell our famous ham and beans soup to congregation members and at the Milton Harvest Festival. Every year the Outreach Committee picks a different non-profit to give all of the proceeds to. This year Outreach picked God’s Chuckwagon, a mobile soup kitchen serving Northumberland Country.

The congregation donated most of the ingredients needed for the soup. A huge thank you to everyone that donated!!! UIC was awarded an Action Team from Thrivent which included a $250 gift card which was used to buy the remaining ingredients needed.

TWO DAYS OF COOKING SOUP!

This year’s proceeds of $1,734 were given to God’s Chuckwagon, a mobile soup kitchen that serves meals in the upper part of Northumberland County. United In Christ member and this year’s ham and bean coordinator, Ruby Baker (left), visited God’s Chuckwagon to present the check to Pastor Jim Bowers and his wife, Janet (right), who had just prepared and served 60 meals in Sunbury and the next day they were traveling to Shamokin to serve additional meals. You can learn more about God’s Chuckwagon on their Facebook page here.

LEWISBURG SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM

In keeping with Christ’s call to feed the less fortunate, the Outreach Committee of UIC, and Lewisburg churches, have partnered with The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to provide food for school age children during the summer, when school lunches are not available. Each church is asked to provide a fresh vegetable and a fresh fruit. We also handed out shelf stable items, milk, meat, and cheese, which were provided by the food bank.

On Friday, June 19, Kathy Arndt, Gwen Murphy, and Ruby Baker helped with the packaging and distribution of approximately 45 grocery bags of food. Participants received food for 2 weeks determined by the number of school age children in their family.

UIC has participated in the Lewisburg Summer Lunch Program for the last 10+ years. The Rich Huff Fund committee has always generously donated the food items to this cause!
