WELCOME
PRELUDE
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Bless’d be the holy Trinity, + Three in one and one in three, God of grace and great mercy, Forgiving you, forgiving me.
Amen.
Almighty God, who opens hearts, who knows our wants and inmost parts: cleanse our thoughts, inspire us true, by your Spirit, help us love you, let us lift your holy name through Jesus Christ, your Son the same.
Amen.
O God, most merciful,
To you we confess: we’re stuck in our sin, we’re never our best. Against you have we sinned: by the wrongs we have done, by the hurt we have made and the good we’ve forgone. From you we have kept from giving our core; and as for our neighbors, we’ve loved ourselves more. For the sake of your Son, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us on just. May we delight in your will and walk in your ways, may we magnify you for all of our days.
Amen.
In the mercy of almighty God, Christ Jesus, by death, was gloried and awed. For us he was given and for us he died God, for his sake, sets our sin aside. As a pastor who has been called and ordained I tell you this news in Christ’s holy name: Your sins are forgiven, you can wholly believe it, In the name of the Father, and the + Son, and the Spirit!
Amen.
OPENING HYMN: ELW 717 “Let Justice Flow like Streams
GREETING
The grace of Christ, God’s loving call, The Spirit’s fellowship be with you all.
And also with you.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Let us pray,
O God the Almighty, God ever-alive, may your gift of faith within us each thrive, that stepping ahead, away from the past you’ll lead us toward ways in you that will last. Grant us the unending joy of your crown, the gift you’ve secured in heaven come down. This do we pray through Christ Jesus your Son, Our Savior and Lord whose vict’ry is won!
Amen.
FIRST READING: Hebrews 4:12-16
12Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.
14Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL: Mark 10:17-31
This is the Holy Gospel according to Mark, the 10th chapter.
Glory to you, O Lord.
17As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. 19You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.’” 20He said to him, “Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth.” 21Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” 22When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.
23Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” 24And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 26They were greatly astounded and said to one another, “Then who can be saved?” 27Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible.”
28Peter began to say to him, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.” 29Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, 30who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age—houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. 31But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.

HYMN OF THE DAY: ELW 532 “Gather Us In”
APOSTLE’S CREED
Together joined with the whole Christian body,
Let’s confess now our faith, let us do so quite loudly:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
Giving thanks for Christ who died, but in whose rising opened wide a way of life for all of us, let’s pray to the God we trust.
For your dear church, we give you thanks. For all the members in its ranks. For those with curiosity. For those who help them look to thee. For all of these, now let us pray.
Have mercy God, for them today.
For the beauty of this earth. For your creation’s endless worth. For mountains, forests, beaches, plains. For all the creatures given names. For all of these, now let us pray.
Have mercy God, for them today.
For all your people of this age. For those in wars of needless rage. For all the leaders of our lands. For peace and justice through your hands. For all of these, now let us pray.
Have mercy God, for them today.
For those in life’s most deep distress. For those who feel a hurting mess. For the sick, the hurt, or those in shame. For all of those whom we now name.
For all of these, now let us pray.
Have mercy God, for them today.
For all the saints now in your light. For those whose faith has been made sight. For those who have before us died. For all of those for whom we’ve cried. For all of these, now let us pray.
Have mercy God, for them today.
We entrust to you now all these prayers. We give to you our deepest cares. By the Spirit’s power now take. Receive them, God for Jesus’ sake.

GREAT THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts, up towards the sky.
We lift them to God, enthroned upon high.
Let’s give thanks to God, our merciful Lord.
It’s right to praise God forevermore.
It is a good and joyful thing to praise God here for everything. For Christ’s glorious resurrection, the Paschal Lamb’s eternal action. For in his dying, Christ conquered death, and turned the grave to living path. And so with Peter and with Mary, with all the witnesses now unwary, with all the creatures of earth and sea, with angel choruses heavenly, we praise your name and join their song unending to say on and on:
Alleluia! Come Holy Spirit!
You are, indeed, our God most holy. Great is the majesty of your glory. You loved this world, so gave your Son to offer life to everyone.
We give you thanks for his life here, to claim for you a people dear. He claimed for you your holy action and for us claimed your great salvation.
In the night he was betrayed, Our Lord Jesus took food displayed. Reaching out he raised on high the bread of life of him who died. Giving thanks he broke the bread and to his friends he boldly said: “Take and eat; this bread is me; Here I give it unto thee.”
In much the same he took the cup and giving thanks he lift it up. “This is my blood that’s shed for you; in it you’ll find my promise true: that this is given to forgive all sin; share with all people, drink it in.”
Just as Christ called us to him remember, Here we proclaim our faith together.
Christ had died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again.
Remembering, then, Christ’s good command, his gracious death, his rising stand, we thank you Lord, O God Almighty, not as we ought, for we are flighty. We ask you mercifully to accept our praise and with your Word and Spirit raise us here your servants, your people, Thine, with these your gifts of bread and wine. May we and all who share Christ’s body and blood be filled with blessing, your gracious flood. May we receive your great forgiveness That, with your saints, we’ll be your witness.
We give honor, glory, and all within it to you, O God, Father, Son, and Spirit,
Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Taking heed of what our Lord did say, we are bold to with him pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
